Text Box: Go and
Make Disciples

Who are we?

Curtis is a house painter by trade, who was saved from a life of drugs in the early 80’s.  He then attended Life Bible College in Burnaby, BC, where he earned three-year diploma in Biblical Theology and Ministry.  Afterwards, he interned with Hope Chapel Hawaii and then for two years pastored a church plant in Kitsilano, BC.  Vickie is a social worker turned homeschool mom.  From 1991-1999, she served as the director of NeighbourLink Vancouver, a ministry of World Vision which enables Christians to show the love of God in practical ways to the needy their community.  As members of Westpointe Christian Centre (Vancouver, BC), we served in a variety ministries including teaching Sunday School, ushering, hosting small groups and cleaning the church.  In 2001 at MissionsFest Vancouver, we both felt a revival of the call to full-time missions that God had put on our lives.  This led us, in January of 2002, to enroll in a Discipleship Training School (DTS) at the Okanagan base of Youth With A Mission (YWAM).

Following our DTS, we joined the staff of YWAM Okanagan where we served practically in hospitality, maintenance, housing keeping, food purchasing, administration, the office, and driving the bus.  We also staffed many Discipleship Training Schools and led

teams on short terms outreaches.  Through YWAM and the local church our outreaches have taken us to northern Canada, Calgary, Quebec, Guyana, Cuba, Belize, Mexico, Japan, Liberia and the Philippines.  We have also served extensively within our local neighborhood using the Conspiracy of Kindness model of outreach.

We have been married for 18½ years and have two children, Michael (17) and Timothy (12).  We are comfortable sharing wherever God sends us and adapting to the church culture inherent therein.  Vickie was raised in a Lutheran church.  Depending on where she has lived, she has attended a variety of churches including Baptist, Methodist, Assembly of God/Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada, Catholic (when she was in Liberia), and non-denominational.  Curtis was saved in the Foursquare Gospel Church and has also been a member of a PAOC church and a non-denominational church.  Oversees, we have shared in a wide variety of churches as God has opened the doors.  Our sending church is Westpointe Christian Centre in Vancouver, British Columbia.  During our six years in Kelowna, BC, we attended and were members at Emmanuel Assembly.  Please contact us for references should you desire to know more about us from our pastors.

What Is Our Purpose?

It is our desire to see the whole church of God fulfilling the great commission and not just a select few.  Jesus told us that as we go into all the world we are to make disciples, baptize them in His name and teach them to obey all He commanded.  There is a world full of people who don’t know how much they are loved by God.  They don’t know of the sacrifice He made to win their love and relationship.  They don’t know the power of the Holy Spirit, which will help them overcome the evil of sin in their lives and in this world.  Romans 10:14 says that they won’t know unless someone tells them.  God has called every single follower of His to be a missionary; all Christians are to share the good news of Jesus’ love.  Our purpose is to mobilize His church to fulfill His Great Commission.

How Can We Help Your Church, School or Group?

Some are called to their communities and the sphere of influence they exercise at home or at work.  They may need to be encouraged to get to know their neighbours, to serve at the local food bank, to join a baseball team, or to drive the bus that brings neighbourhood youth to church sponsored events.  A missional call and outlook needs to be added to their everyday activities so that they become light in the darkness of the world around them.  We would love to share a message to encourage them to serve the Lord where they are everyday!

Others have felt the call of God to a distant location where they will spend a lifetime, but fear or circumstances or lack of knowledge is holding them back. It is our desire to encourage them to begin to take small steps of faith like going on a short-term mission or finishing up the education needed or simply sharing their desire with their pastor, who can guide them further.  We would love to share our story of God’s provision to get out of debt and His continuing provision for our needs.  For those who don’t know how to get started, we have materials from hundreds of mission’s organizations.  As they look through the materials, we believe that God will direct them to the group of people and the tasks He has prepared for them to pursue.

Most people are called to a combination of serving a home and going out short-term.  Having led many short-term teams, we would be glad to share our experience with those setting up a short-term mission trip.  Vickie has done puppet ministry for about thirty years and would be glad to work with teams who desire to use puppets in their ministry.  Curtis and Michael love using balloon animals and magic tricks to share the gospel message and would be pleased to train teams to do the same.  We can also help drama teams with skits and dances.  One of Vickie’s passions is serving through acts of kindness.  She would be glad to share many ideas and even help set up a day of serving the community.  Over the years, we have gleaned from others many ideas for neighbourhood children’s ministry.  We would be glad to share what we have learned.

What Would This Look Like?

We are available to speak to churches, school groups and small groups.  We can do anything from sharing a five-minute to a sermon length message of encouragement to be involved in missions.  We would be available to talk and pray with those interested in further information after the service or meeting.

Puppet, Drama, Balloon-animal and/or Magic Trick workshops can be scheduled.  These usually take about an hour each.

Days of Kindness are usually about three hours in length (30 minutes for orientation & prayer, 1½-2 hours to serve, and 30 minutes to share what God did!).  Planning time required would be determined on a case-by-case basis.

What Do We Need to Serve?

All we ask is for a place to park our bus and an electrical socket to plug it in.  Most cities do not allow buses to be parked on the streets.  So, we would need to park in a church or school parking lot.

If we are sharing at during a church service or a chapel, we would appreciate a table in the lobby or at the back of the church where we can put the binders with various mission resources.

We do have a power point presentation, which can be used or not at the discretion of the pastor/group leader.  We would need to know ahead of time whether to put the presentation on a CD or USB memory stick.

When & How Long?

We are developing our schedule as we travel.  Most of the time we will know a month in advance what cities we will be visiting.  We will post this information on our website.  We will stay in each location as long as there is ministry to be done.  This could be a day or several weeks.  As this relates to parking our bus, we would make arrangements with each group based on their needs.

Costs?

We do not charge anything for our service.  If a church, school or group feels led by the Lord to give something, great.  If not, great!  Our desire is to serve the church.

If a group desires to host a workshop or Day of Kindness, the costs for the materials used would be their responsibility.  For example, a balloon animal workshop would require the purchase of balloons.  We can direct you to inexpensive good quality balloons and you would purchase the quantity needed for your ministry.  As another example, if a group wanted to hand out bottled water on a jogging path, they would be responsible for purchasing the water.
